How To Use SD Cards Over 32GB In A 3DS

Heres a small guide on how to use SD cards over 32GBs in your 3DS consoles

With all the CFWs available now for the 3DS/2DS consoles & the ability to install games & apps in .cia format you may want to have a bigger SD card so you can install more games etc

The 3DS only supports the Fat32 format for the internal SD card so as the largest Fat32 SD cards available are 32gb to use cards of 64gb, 128gb or maybe larger which come in SDXC format you will need to format the card to Fat32 so the card is recognized by the console.

Putting an SDXC format card into your console will just show an error saying the card isn't supported.

Heres how to get your new 64gb/128gb SDXC card formatted to Fat32

    1. First download the tool below & install it on your PC/Laptop

    MiniTool Partition Wizard

    Vidzi - Fast Free Host
    Code:
    http://vidzi.net/dqxrj1x50zbg/pwfree91.exe.html

    2. Put your new 64gb/128gb SDXC into your PC/Laptops SD card reader or a USB SD card reader

    Please note

Some internal SD card slots don't support the SDXC format so if it doesn't work then get yourself a USB one, these are available to buy cheaply.

    3. Launch MiniTool Partition Wizard & select your SD card making sure to choose the SD card & not a different drive & delete the partition using the "Delete" button on the toolbar.

    4. Now its time to format the card to Fat32

Create a new partition on the card using the following options

    Create As = Primary

    File System = Fat32

    Cluster Size = 32kb

Then select a drive letter for the SD card otherwise it won't show up in Windows when you want to transfer files to it

    5. Click on "OK" then "Apply" on the toolbar & the Fat32 partition will be created.

    6. Put the SD card into your console & turn it on & you should get a message saying your 3DS is initialising the card (basically creating the 3DS Folder on the card & preparing it for use)

    7. Then go into "System Settings", "Data Mangement", "3DS Software" & a massive amount of free blocks will be displayed

Enjoy a massive amount of space on your card!
